It just means that the first thing you do in those games is look at cool items in the shops and go "oh well" for the first ~45 minutes of the game while you buy the map options as soon as possible.

Having to spend currency on the map stuff in the HK games is so silly because it's such a non-choice. Nobody goes "ooo do i buy the utility that saves me tons of time and lasts the whole game or do i buy a mysterious key i probably can't use for 3 hours"

They have a new game (Angeline Era) coming out in either December or the beginning of 2026 that I'd highly recommend based on the demo. Also, there's an Anodyne 2 for whenever you finish chipping away at the first.

3DS emulation is perfectly fine at this point, but she may want to show off some of the touch screen interaction in a more tactile way or something.

It'd have much more fervent support had the combat not been completely one-dimensional. If the Windows/updated version had integrated party member control into default play and incentivized switching between members, I think even that would have done it.
