All opinions are mine; I don’t speak for my employer in any way.

  1. It’s crazy that America just like. Destroyed science. Just looked at its golden goose and went “wow should we kill this? And not for the gold, but just because we fucking hate this thing”

And if you tell random people about it they go “no, that doesn’t seem true” and just refuse to believe you

  2. I have never seen so many public servants protest the mismanagement of a government. Trumpists will point to this as proof of the deep state, but the reality is that these are professionals who are desperately trying to get the public to understand how bad things are.

  3. I think people really struggle w partially consolidated authoritarianism, either understating our problem or understating our power

It's like we're in a liminal fascist space. And not recognizing how far gone we are or thinking we're simply too far gone are both grave errors we can't afford to make

any argument that trump has fully consolidated authoritarian power has to contend with the fact that the government wants to deport kilmar abrego garcia to uganda but hasn't done so, because a judge told them not to

  4. Breaking: BILL CASSIDY is calling for CDC's vaccine advisers meeting to be postponed.

"If the meeting proceeds, any recommendations made should be rejected as lacking legitimacy given the seriousness of the allegations and the current turmoil in CDC leadership."

Inbox: @sanders.senate.gov is calling for a bipartisan investigation into the firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez.

Sanders is the top Democrat on the Senate's health committee — the chairman is Bill Cassidy, who last night said he would conduct "oversight" but didn't get more specific.

NEWS: Sanders Demands Bipartisan
Investigation into Firing of CDC Director
WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today called for a bipartisan congressional investigation into the recent firing of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Susan Monarez by the Trump administration.
Sanders condemned what he called a "reckless" and "dangerous" decision, following reports that Monarez was removed at the request of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for refusing to support his anti-vaccine agenda. Sanders also highlighted the resignation of four senior CDC leaders, two of whom cited increasing political pressure to mislead the public as their reason for stepping down.
"We need leaders at the CDC and HHS who are committed to improving public health and have the courage to stand up for science, not officials who have a history of spreading bogus conspiracy theories and disinformation," Sanders wrote.

  5. However bad you think things are at the CDC they are worse.

That's the takeaway from this well-reported story from Daniel Payne w/back-up from an all-star STAT team.

    Must-read.
