one thing to remember about "ICE is going to occupy Democrat strongholds" is that ICE, if it hires to capacity, will employ about 26k people by the end of 2026, which is 1/3 smaller than the NYPD, which is not a large enough police force to occupy New York City itself.

Just tried watching Ezra Klein’s latest NYT podcast episode on how the U.S. got to this point where vaccines are so politicized.
It’s pretty clear that Klein and his guests—David Wallace Wells and Rachael Bedard—really do not understand why/how the political right turned on vaccines.

I'd add to all this that successful national collaboration against Covid would have also ratified a form of solidarity that's absolutely anathema to MAGA and the right, one that isn't premised on exclusion and hierarchical superiority.
