Sorry, Sarah, but you are now, officially and on the record, a moral degenerate. And you know it.

  1. This kicked off last year when one of the Christmas adverts had a black family in it. "Black people are only 4% of the population so why are they in 50% of the adverts" like smh mate I couldn't care less about the ethnicity of the family I want to know if the turkey is a good deal

  2. The thing is – her argument SEEMS reasonable to many people. They need to be reminded that there is no monthly council of advertisers at which everyone agrees on the demographic allocation of actors. When you make any one ad you try to appeal to the widest group possible.

  3. I don’t think I should have to say this, but adverts are created by marketing specialists to try and sell products and services. They will be made in whatever way is most likely to sell. They are unconcerned with your political nonsense.

  5. Funny how so much “DEI” just ends up being companies trying to maximize broad appeal and therefore profit, if you think about it for more than a second.

  6. Where "DEI" means, as always "there's too many [slur for black people]; [slur for queer people] and [slur for disliked minority de jure, recently Muslims], but I want to claim I'm not a bigot".

It's a really useful and concise word, if you're scum.

  8. Let's do a study on how attractive people are over-represented in advertisements. Does it seem wrong that 95% of ads featured attractive people while attractive people make up only 2% of the population in England and Wales? Sounds like DEI.

Scotland, of course, has many more attractive people.

  9. Let me guess: when asked if she’s racist, she responds that she “doesn’t see color.” Except when there’s too much of it on her TV.

  10. 20% of Reform MPs went on TV this weekend to say they got upset seeing black people in adverts, this seems like the more concerning statistic

  12. I would love to know what Sarah Pochin MP thinks should be done here. Does she want a government body to set a quota for the number of black people in TV ads and then, what, have the government pick and choose which companies get to hire a black actor?

  13. It’s advertising. The motive is profit. In the past advertising was more effective if it excluded minorities. Today advertising is more effective if it includes minorities.

  14. So Sarah’s issue is that she sees a disproportionate number of black people on television, at a rate that doesn’t accord with the current demographic breakdown of the country.

I wonder if she ever bothered to ask herself why that bothers her so much.

  15. Also, adverts generally feature more than 1 person; often ten or more, so having a black person (4% of population) in just over half of adverts is representative.

As a Polish Lithuanian I’ve only got Mel Giedroyc.

  16. Also, anyone who believes ad demographics should be expected to resemble national demographics is utterly stupid and can be safely ignored on all topics involving statistics, mathematics or processes more complicated than making a cup of instant coffee.

  17. Notice lately, bigots using "percentages" a lot. They can't add, but somehow still feel comfortable using "percent" as an adjective, as if a dog-whistle for ignoramuses. The leading US degenerate, meanwhile, is promising huge price discounts: "60, 80, 120, in some cases 200, even 300 percent".
