I am baffled by the Washington Post's sanitized framing of this story. The Supreme Court is clearly going to "rule on the law" -- that is what courts do! The news is that SCOTUS signaled that it might gut the VRA entirely.

Compare WaPo and Democracy Docket's headlines. Which source do you trust?

  1. Why, when we had the chance, didn't we expand the SCOTUS to mute these traitors? Democratic leadership has failed the country. They should all resign in disgrace.

  2. I 'trust' the Post, but they deliberately (and meekly) miss the point quite a bit these days. Have to read worldwide news sources now more than ever

  3. In recent times, it’s become clear that Wash Post is no longer the paper it was.Gone is the courage, integrity and directness that once characterized it. Gone is the confidence to speak truth to power.Thank you Marc Elias for all your efforts to protect the democracy and your heroic work.

  4. Hey minorities, there is nothing a white man can do for you in the situation. You need to fight for yourself either that or succumb to Trump and go lick his ass. Somethings got to give. This is incredible Hispanic people what the fuck is wrong with you

  5. Supremely corrupt Court has been bought and paid for by billionaires and responsible for bringing fascism to America. They are criminals

  6. SCOTUS has not ruled on the law in years now. They rule based on bribes and the whims of the orange menace - well at least the corrupt republican judges do. Again, the idea that a judiciary has a party affiliation is the biggest farce and is completely contrary to the spirit and purpose of a court

  7. What a crock of 💩

This Supreme Court has been bought and paid for

Not to mention how they all lied during their hearings.

Oh yeah, great group of people

  8. Well, when one source is desperate to portray itself as even-handed And the other is trying to portray the truth, I think I know which way I'm going.

  9. Well considering bezos is an evil super-villain, this tracks. I wouldn’t trust him to pick up my dog’s 💩

  10. Wapo isn’t the same paper since Bezos’ head took over, of course. Every political headline as well as the reporting reads that it’s been sanitized these days.

  11. "Baffled by the Washington Post," Mark?... Come on!.. It's Bezo's POS Propaganda Rag -- No longer a Respectable Newspaper!... Why do you think sooo many people have left it?!... Come on!

  12. When the WaPo refused to endorse a presidential candidate (Harris) in 2024 I canceled my long-time subscription. I don't believe anything from them anymore. Bezos is just another Trump suck-up.

  13. None of them since I lost my trust in News organizations because they're now controlled by billionaires so they can quash anything that threatens them and only report tabloid crap

  16. Mainstream media is pathetic. Independent journalists are the new 4th estate - collectively, they are the people's watchdog now.

  17. Two supposed Supreme Court justices with connections to the insurrection against the United States of America, Thomas and Alito. Thomas's wife funded busloads of insurrectionists, Alito's wife flew the insurrection flag. We no longer have a Supreme Court.

  18. I’m tired of this it’s time for blue states to ignore this joke of a Supreme Court , it’s clear that they are corrupt let’s stop pretending

  19. DD, without question.

Capitulating to Trump killed any integrity WAPO had. Lots of options if you only want to be lied to, though.

  20. Exactly.

    Everyone should be asking:

Who owns Wa Po? Answer: Someone who wants lucrative gov contracts. "Democracy dies in darkness" is now its mission statement.

Who owns Democracy Docket? Not someone like that. People with an entirely different goal in mind. It's why democracy is in the name.

  21. It's funny how legacy media has been propagandized. And the way to get truth is by unraveling all the BS. Thank you for unraveling.

  22. Americans need to shut that "court" down. We should have shut that criminal freak fest down years ago but it is never too late. The people are not going to follow a criminal court.

  23. John Roberts was hired by Ronnie Raygun to destroy the VRA. He lied about it when he was confirmed. He will be remembered in history as the CJ who destroyed the Supreme Court, turning it into a partisan tribunal dedicated to saving a fascist party and an Orange old man with dementia.

  24. I keep asking what's going to happen next and I need to stop because it keeps getting worse and don't say how low can they go Geez l just did it again and you try to think that's it but it's not it and they do shit so unbelievable and absolutely crazy and making absolutely no sense at all sorry...

  25. That's good to hear. We need someone like you mad. I've been baffled by the sanitized reporting since 2016. For nearly ten years, reporters have shied away from saying "Trump lied today about..." when they have clear and obvious proof he lied.

  26. After we beat the snot out of the shitheads in in Congress in 2026, we need to go scorched earth on SCOTUS. Expand it, pack it, roll back the bullshit, and NEVER let a mobster wanna be gang back in office again.

    2
  27. That’s what courts are supposed to do. Currently, the MAGA majority doesn’t objectively rule on the law. The Opus Dei crowd is getting their marching orders from Leonard Leo. Our highest court is rivaling the likes of the highest courts of Russia & China. How far we have fallen.

  28. The WaPo is worth approximately 1/2 a percent (0.5%) of Bezos's net worth.

When you've got these psychopaths by the wallets, their hearts and minds will follow.

    0
  29. You’re a smart man, Mark. Not sure if I can believe you’re baffled by Jeff Bezos’ WaPo engaging in jaw dropping mendacity, so I’m going to guess you’re framing it that way for those who may need a nudge to figure out just how corrupt things are right now.

  30. Call me a civics ignoramus, but if Congress passes a law, SCOTUS rules in favor of that law multiple times over 50 years how is that law now unconstitutional? Doesn’t scotus have to tell Congress WHAT is do unconstitutional about it all of a sudden? If not, it seems that we are ruled by 9 justice

  31. Come on, Marc! "Baffled?" That's the best you can do.

    You know what's going on.

Of course, NYT has been there with headlines for some time, with worst Sulzberger ever.

Like George Bush welcoming Trump in ranking, NYT welcomes corruption of WaPo.

    Why be the worst?

  32. I pay no attention to the Easing Post because Bezos owns it. Don't trust anything of his...

    1
  33. Yes, because as John Roberts says there's no more racial discrimination in America anymore.

  34. SCOTUS is ruling themselves in obsolescence! Authoritarians basically tell the judges it’s closing time and to turn off the lights on the way out.

  35. I could write an essay on the myriad errors in this 1 WaPo blurb

Incoherence Meaninglessness Perspective mis-orientation Issue isolation from known facts—history, record, gerrymandering, the people, civil rights expectations, etc Mis-association of power to the targeted Culprit & initiation omission

  36. SCOTUS: “You can’t target minorities for good stuff!”

Also SCOTUS: “You can tooootally target minorities for bad stuff!”

  37. Right! Good reminder to cancel your Washington Post, NY Times, Amazon Prime and Paramount+ subscriptions. Stop funding the oligarchs and support independent people like Marc Elias.

  38. shall these courts go off the rails again, it's time to observe US Constitution's 2nd Amendment A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State

  39. TWP has been “sanitizing” stories for quite some time but it’s worse than ever now!

  40. You shouldn't have to rule on any law. IT'S THE LAW! NO GERRYMANDERING IN BETWEEN. NO STEALING ELECTIONS. What happened to fairness everyone expects. The people need to vote for those who represent us. Not the other way around. Representatives can't choose us.

    1
  41. The plot thickens as Trump and his cronies have a chokehold on the SCOTUS, and as they skirt the law/rules, it is quite plain to see the obvious. 😏

  42. Voting Act should have been the primary goal of democratic controlled legislature for last 20 years - IMHO

  43. Talking like it's not ending. Gaslighting.

I noticed that a lot of chain link fence has been recently erected around federal buildings throughout town in New Orleans.

  44. Clarence Thomas signaled 2 years ago that he welcomed a chance to eliminate this. He and Roberts will slam dunk it in.

  45. A no-brainer, but then, the WaPo turned into the Wha?Po as soon as Bald Buffoon Billionaire Bezos (B-4) took over.

= Need to ask Hegeseth for another B-4 Bomber. 😖

    0
  46. How can you be baffled? WaPo sold out over a year ago. Nothing of what once was remains. It’s a tabloid. It’s National Inquirer. Does Bat Boy baffle you?

  47. This court is a total disaster. They've been chipping away at democracy and human rights for years doing everything in their power to force their extremist white Christian nationalist views on Americans.

    0
  48. The republic might really be dead. The only way this ends is if the people do as the French did and put everyone on taco's side to death.

    0
  49. Of course they're going to gut it entirely! This Court is anti Constitutional & un-American. Obviously I am not a lawyer, just an American citizen that uses her brain, eyes & ears.

  50. Maybe a Democratic president in 2029, with unitary powers, can strong arm douchebag Bezos into selling this now worthless rag. The journey from Paragon of journalistic integrity to something I wouldn't wipe my own ass with surely happened fast. Has the NY Times ever called a trump statement a lie?

    0
  51. This is why I canceled my WaPo subscription and bought one for Democracy Docket instead. Best money I ever spent.

    0
  52. Baffled? The WaPo is now fully bent to the will of a horrid, self-addled oligarch! They are now 100% on the side of fascism, obscenely pissing on their own honorable heritage of holding the powerful accountable. No decent person should even think of looking at their shit content anymore! Fuck Bezos!

    0
  53. No point being baffled. Elected officials and those of influence who oppose, don't have to give oxygen to the WaPo or CBS if they don't want to. Decline giving them exclusive quotes or interviews or whatever. The landscape has changed. Find your audience and persuadable via 2025 outlets.

    @glo45.bsky.social

For the most part the Supreme Court is bought and paid for by Trump and the GOP who are scared shitless of fair and free elections. They might not win and actually have to work for a living-like their constituents.

  55. Exactly — calling it ‘ruling on the law’ totally buries the lede. The real story is the threat to voting rights.Sanitized language like that makes systemic rollbacks sound neutral. It’s not neutral — it’s deeply political.”Framing is the story.
