Every Democratic state that can do this, should do this.

Then, when we control the levels of power in DC, we ban gerrymandering for the entire country. Once and for all. Everyone playing by the same rules.

  1. Okay, so we’ll ban gerrymandering. So, Red states will follow the new law, and stop gerrymandering. Even though they don’t currently follow existing laws, or even the Constitution itself. But they will.

And if/when MAGA wins another election, what will they do? Respect the new law?

  2. Thank you because that's exactly what needs to be done amongst other things and actually there's a bill to try to get past but thanks to a couple of Dino's it didn't happen get it passed as a matter of fact go back and revamp it and then enshrine it in the Constitution

  3. Revoke citizenship.of every appointee, every cabinet member. They hate democracy so much they want to tear apart our citizenship? Then they can fuck right off to another country.

  4. But then they can't give the nation to the fascists like their donors told them to as easily so good luck with that

  5. Maine could/should gerrymander the 2nd district to ensure Democrats hold the seat for the foreseeable future and would be able to run a better candidate than the existing congressman, golden

    1
  6. We should still do it even if the Texas GQP steps down, because they will put everything in place to do it last minute while we are thinking they’re operating in good faith.

    5
  7. You'd have to come up with a law banning it that would be able to withstand being tested by this rigged SCOTUS you have in place today.

Another thing you do is reverse Citizens United after codifying Roe v Wade & banning gerrymandering.

  8. My favorite thing about the letter is Newsom mocking trumps newest tagline *thank you for your attention to this matter *

  9. Do it! Do not wait. Start gerrymandering now. How have we allowed them to take over states that have a Dem majority? They have been allowed to cheat freely for too long.

    0
  10. Every blue state should redistrict now. Not threaten to do it, but do it. Republicans in the House and Senate voting for a national ban should be the only basis for them changing course. Anything less than a national ban is unacceptable - their word means nothing. We need a law and one with teeth.

  11. Give the Orange Felon an ultimatum. Drop the criminal insanity by certain date or Dem States implement their rebuttal to save this Democracy. TACO

  12. Yes! Gerrymandering outlawed -- love it. Thx. You're one if the new generation of Dem fighters, IMHO.

    0
  13. As a DC residence I say no they should not wait. They need to do it now. Democrats are still too passive. We’ve known for six months. Trump was going to try this and yet where is the DC leadership on this? Giving a press conference?

    1
  14. The all-caps and “thank you for your attention to this matter” sign off is the best part! 🤣🤣 Nicely done!

    0
  15. Not before banning the Republican Party, every fascist group and all of their members from ever participating in politics again.

    0
  16. And states can very easily build in escape clauses that undo political gerrymandering IF other states also ditch (kind of like those that codified national popular vote IF enough other states do same to ensure national popular vote wins)

  17. Where is the team of social media platforms sharing this narrative? I’ve only seen Newsom out here doing it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    1
  18. DO IT ALREADY! They don’t ask/warn/give a shit! Oh NO, will Schumer or Jeffries help? How about the WEAK ASS OLD SCHOOL DEMS?

    0
  19. No. You keep it in place until the current GoP is dead, buried & gone. Allow those who were disenfranchised by the takeover an opportunity to rebuild the party. Any country without an effective opposition is not a democracy (see USA 2025). Oh and prosecute all current actors & enablers in regime.

  20. I say do what Beto recommended. Do it anyway, whether Texas does or not. Take the fight to 'em and let them react.

    0
  21. Right. No tit for tat. Take it ALL then once we can, fix it in ALL states. Enough unilateral disarmament. Enough going high. If they go low, we go lower until it's fixed and then we go high but only if they behave like human beings.

  22. If you don’t know how they will respond you are not equipped to fight the culture war ongoing now. MAGA wants this……. Sadly we need to do everything any anything to survive

    0
  23. Yes we should BUT ALSO be aware that they are trying MULTIPLE THINGS to disenfranchise ALL Dems—FOREVER! Perhaps we ALSO ALL change our party affiliation to GOP right NOW and then vote the motherfvckers out office once and for all!! EVERYTHING SHOULD BE ON THE TABLE Maxwell! EVERYTHING!

    0
  24. Do it anyways. Like that bastard will listen to stick to a deal.

As a voter in CA, I want this on my ballot this November.

    1
  25. Newsom’s performative political act is getting old.

Idk why he keeps SAYING he will do it. Like, just do it already. Get off social media, mark the calendar & get the ball rolling.

The process in CA isn’t a short one and he’s just wasting time playing social media wars with 47. SMH

    0
  26. Newsom should just stop with this BS. If it's legal to redistrict, then try to do it. If it's not legal to redistrict, then don't try to do it.

Stop negotiating with Nazis on social media for clicks and soundbytes.

(It's no wonder so many people hate politics)

    0
  28. That’s a bold move 🔥 It would be interesting to see how other states respond to this. Do you think they’ll actually follow through?

    0
  29. We need to also begin talking about the nuclear option because Trump will never stop, he has no ability to restrain himself.

The Constitution and rules of law have been weakened.

    0
  30. Dems would need to balance SCOTUS also. Otherwise any newly passed law by Dems will be declared unconstitutionally invalid by today’s extreme court.

    0
  31. So now we have Political Leaders playing chicken with each other, while they have a President totally ignore the Constitution and the Laws it represents. Ever since the Supreme Court granted him immunity he has run ROUGHSHOD over the entire fucking National. It's a good thing that the Congress

  32. We’ll turn it beautiful blue like no one has ever seen before. The men will have tears in their eyes saying thank you for being so bigly brave to make sure CA stays blue and great again :D

    0
  33. Every democratic state, including California, should ACTUALLY do it, not just threaten to do it. Everyone knows that threats from democrats are meaningless because they've never had the spine to follow through. Republicans don't expect this threat to be any different. Prove them wrong for once!

    0
  34. I like the tongue-in-check writing style. IDK if Ds can gain as many R seats as Rs potentially can D, but as I look at a map, the new R hopefuls in every state risk losing 2-for-1 in a blue wave. While lawmakers move on this, the rest of us need to working every day toward that blue wave everywhere.

    0
  35. But you also better count the numbers on the other side, because they just might come out ahead.

    0
  36. It must be done - and anyone saying not to do this fails the war games exam.

We know Texas is just the beginning- it is a first strike. Consider the implications if fail to respond in kind.

And BTW, what impact to donors invested in GOP in blue states?

    0
  37. Republicans already gerrymandered OK-05 back in 2021 after a Democrat won in 2018. The blue states are BEHIND. They should NOT stand down they should gerrymander NOW. Democrats in OK are totally without representation. Do it, Newsom! For us!

    0
  38. Hate to call you out, but gerrymandering is already against the law. The states are left to apportion the districts however they choose, provided the population is approximately the same, it's contiguous, compact & not racially based. Provided the Voting Rights Act stands. All else is in the courts.

  40. No, man, every Dem state should NOT wait to see if Republicans do something before they make a move, they should just make a move

    0
  41. Exactly- this is about democracy. If we have no choice but to use the means available - we must do so quickly and everywhere.

The Dem party is the reform party. We must reform government and broken system ti that each and every vote counts. We must also get $$$ and religion out of politics

    0
  42. OMG JUST DO IT ALREADY WTFFFFFF!!!

Same as the Democrats should have quadrupled the number of Supreme Court judges, closed Guantanamo, etc, etc just as the Republicans simply do and the Democrats just keep clutching. pearls.

    0
  43. Democrats should never make deals nor concessions with the RepubMaga party ever again. Their 'word' means nothing whatsoever. They can't be trusted. They have no integrity. No honour. No commitment to our nation. Willingly disregard the US Constitution and the rule of law.

    ENOUGH.

  44. I’d go one step further

Democratic leaders in Congress need to coordinate democratic governors & mayors nationwide to defend democracy. When the GOP tries to rig the game through gerrymandering or unconstitutional overreach, unified resistance across all levels of government becomes essential…

    1
  45. New Mexico did it years before anyone else even started freaking out about this.

We moved to make sure this state stays blue years ago

    0
  46. Proud to be a Californian where we have a governor who is not afraid to stand up to "Old Stinky Butt"!

The overwhelming majority of Californians have your back Gov. Newsom! It's time to tell Old Stinky to fuck off, so go for it Gov!

    0
  47. Great idea. But how would that play out in the future?Establishment of an oversight agency for fair districting? Maybe pass a Voting Rights Act? This sounds familiar…

    0
  48. Who do you think you are dealing with? You think Dump and his cronies want things to be fair! This is war! You need to change your thinking. GIVE THEM NOTHING AND TAKE EVERYTHING FROM THEM!

    0
  49. The thing is; every state has different state constitutions. Most require the voice of the people, before making changes like mentioned.. it would require voting on / changing state constitution, first. Though we may not understand, certainly we can appreciate the reason It’s not done in a blink.

    0
  50. Why are they waiting? Let's catch up to past Gerrymandering. Rough calculations - 16 seats?

Restore the equilibrium in CA - first - then if Texas & Florida jump - then IL and MI.

Then happy to ban gerrymandering for the entire country - betting the R's won't go for it.

    1
  51. The Supreme Court Has Addressed This Over And Over And Ruled That Gerrymandering To Favor One Political Party Over The Other Is Perfectly Legal....Disgusting, Isn't It?....

    0
  52. Sadly, my American neighbors, there is no playing Fair Ball with this Orange Pus President & his dumbass followers & cabinet! All blue States governors need to respond and strike while the iron is hot! Hell, take it into red States as Bernie Sanders & AOC are doing & expose his cheating ways! 🇨🇦🇨🇦

    0
  53. How about we get the people who gerrymander maps and rig elections out of our society entirely? I'm not cohabitating with nazis.

    0
  54. I sure hope democrats get a chance @ power once again. I'm hoping we can get to midterms & actual elections w/out TFG putting the military in every blue state & calling out the Insurrection Act to eliminate voting, so he can stay in power. So the lying cheating dirty republicans can stay in power.

    0
  55. Screw gerrymandering - let's go straight to arresting these GOP lawmakers for their crimes!

    0
  56. No. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Have a lovely week Mr. Newsome.

Would love to hear about some secession efforts, perhaps some #constitutionalconvention discussions amongst your enlightened peers?

    0
  57. Gosh, I was hoping that the answer to 'if you don't stand down' was 'We are going to arrest you, drag your ass out in chains and make sure NO ONE ever has to listen to your stupid comments and your stupid voice again.

    0
  58. one note: dont wait for the gop to act reasonable, they won’t. redraw now and get seats. we have given the gop 25 years to stop being fascists, they never did. playtimes over. take what you can get, it will be cheaper and better for everyone to get all gop members out of office.

    0
  59. How is it fair for us to gain power in this way when we are saying it’s totally unjust when the GOP does it? If we can’t answer that question in a clear, ethical way, then it’s not cool at all. And yes, I know our democracy is on the line, either way.

    0
  60. Good one. Maybe an official announcement next time that we've elected a new king with a photo of an Irish Setter or a Bull Mastiff with King tags. Could be mistaken for cabinet members without the tags.

    0
  61. Democrats should have done this years ago instead of being “nice” to the opposition party wants many of us dead.

    0
  62. The Democrats should just go ahead and go for it regardless if the Maggots agree or not because they made it so hard already to be trusted. And another reason to do it is because the gQp know if they don't keep the House Chamber they will be held accountable so they will get desperate to cheat.

    0
  63. I would love to see a national set of election laws and rules for national offices so that we elect the president and vice president the same way in all 50 states and territories as well as abolishing the outdated electoral college.

    1
  64. To save U.S. Democracy, you're going to have to break it, at this point. Even Hitler knew that democracies contain the recipe for their own destruction. You can destroy them with their own rules. To save them from dictators, you may have to break those rules. You can fix it later. It's like chemo.

    0
  65. Do NOT fucking trust trump to agree to anything. He will fuck you over. And you will deserve it for being that stupid. Proceed with the plan. He's a fucking felon. What more do you need?

    0
  66. Just fucking do it. Even if they stand down. We got Supreme Court justices to impeach and newly appointed judges that need to be impeached as well. And we DC needs to become 51st state.

    0
  67. Can this DH felon direct his attention to “this matter” ?? Does this moronic piece of …. know anything about what is tight and wrong , the Constitution…. surrounded by a cabinet of male and female dogs, scum and slugs??

    0
  68. This shouldn't be a retaliatory strategy for dems. This should be a necessary tactic. The GOP has gerrymandered for 10 to 20 years now with no downside and no compunction whatsoever. We cannot stand on the podium and yell Shame! expecting them to see the light. Blue states need to unite& go for it.

    0
  69. Try it. At the bare minimum it will show unity and strength. Will the SC not take challenges? and rule for Republicans? Obviously they're going to rule against the validity of the entire VRA, and allow a mid cycle census but do it anyway.

    0
  70. They already are Max. The latest "threat to democracy"! What will it be next week?

    0
  71. I hope an independent electoral commission can be created that is responsible for drawing electoral boundaries among other duties, similar to Australia’s.

    0
  72. Couldn't agree more. MAGA people are breaking laws to stay in power. Dems need to take extraordinary measures to preserve democracy. And then Democrats need to create new laws to further enshrine and protect the American dream.

(I realize as I write this that MAGA could make the same claim)

    0
  73. The Democrats have been walking way behind the Republicans for years, trying to respect the institution. Whether red states stand down or not, the blue states need to play by their rules and play the system to take back control.

    0
  74. Don’t forget we need to shitcan that electoral college, too! Better yet, let’s make all MAGA trump supporters 3/5 of a person!

    0
  75. Sounds reasonable but I’m a real bytch so I wouldn’t tell them I’d just do it.

OBTW, tell your leadership team they need to hand their torch to someone that is on the side of the people. Just saying

    0
  76. State-led reforms can build momentum and set a strong example for national change on gerrymandering. When enough states take a stand, it becomes impossible for the federal government to ignore.
