For some time now, police forces around the country have been infiltrated by right wing extremists. Aside from that, little has been done in response to the many, many crimes and abuses the police have themselves perpetrated.
Any group that gets a slap on the wrist for murder is an occupying force.

It reminds me of Mike Duncan’s Revolutions podcast where a common inflection point is ‘troops get called out to quell unrest ~> someone gets shot’ and then everything changes.
