Just this guy.

I dig MST3K, film, retro games, Muppets, Iron Chef, Joe Bob Briggs and hosted movie shows, birdwatching, horror/sci-fi, pro wrestling, oldies/jazz, etc.

Hi there!

av: MST3K's Crow in tux banner: Keep circulating the tapes

  1. In JAWS? The character interactions, the lead up, and the suspense are the story. Punctuated by the attacks, but those aren't remotely the story. And they steered the cinematography away from their fake shark, because they understood where the tension was.

  2. Ugh. Yes.

Raiders has more resonance that Generic Action Flick #47, because it builds so much backstory. The ever-present action? Is somehow still an aside. There's no debating the excellence of the action scenes in Raiders, but all that is secondary to the story. The action? Is not the story.

  3. Exactly.

It's about THE BIG MONEY SCENES rather than letting the subtle nuances of the piece creeeeep under your skin.

It feels like, to some extent, that's a greater issue with films at large, that films just can't take their time anymore; it's all about the hurry hurry hurry w/o any resonance.
