  1. Depended on what it ate! I'm guessing no one knows. But since humans apparently taste like pork & snakes taste like chicken, probably somewhere in between. To be honest I'd rather they weren't extinct & that no one ate them ever.

  2. Chicken. Everything tastes like chicken. We love chicken. Maybe that is why everything tastes like chicken. Even rattlesnakes.

  3. Contemporary accounts vary from 'delicious' to 'tough and unpleasant' with the comment that it depends how much it was (over)cooked. Given the genetic family, probably like pigeon then, the breast is fine when barely cooked but it's disgusting when well cooked.

  4. People often mention Walghvogel, 'disgusting bird'. However, it's said that properly cooked breast or belly meat was good eating, so it was probably the cut. Their closest relative, the Rodrigues Solitaire, was also said to have good breast and belly meat, other cuts being poor. >>>

  6. Must not have been good otherwise they would’ve been domesticated and I’d be throwing some Dodo on the BBQ tonight.

  7. It tasted quite shit apparently, according to contemporary records - but when hard tack is your diet, anything else becomes the better option...

  8. It tastes like chicken. Growing up, whenever my parents wanted me to eat something new - like duck, or crawfish, or rabbit - hey would say it tastes like chicken. It never did, and that's when I learned that parents sometimes lie to their kids. 😉

  9. Disgusting! The Dutch name for the bird was "Walgvogel" translates into ¨Disgustingbird". The Dutch should know eating all birds to their extinct.

  10. Its closest living relation is the pigeon, so I imagine similar to pigeon. I have eaten pigeon once, years ago, but can't really remember what it was like.

  12. Not very nice apparently, which makes me wonder what they ate because that can be a factor in what the thing in itself tastes like. What’s the evidence? I could look it up but I’m tired.

  13. It must have been super tasty considering they rendered it extinct. I'm thinking something rich along the lines of duck maybe.

  14. According to sailors who ate dodo birds before the bird went extinct (which was a long, long time ago) it was vile tasting. But one bird could feed up to 50 people.
