For those who think tariffs will help manufacturing here in the USA, your “Made in USA” fridge isn’t carved out of bald eagle feathers.

The parts come from all over the world & tariffs make those parts cost more.

So you’re paying extra for the privilege of thinking you’re sticking it to China.

  1. Correct...

So why is this not crafted into an ad...

    Issues like this.

Talk to small biz owners who cant bring in product. Restaurants whove list staff & have high foid costs...

    Ads ads ads!

    Don't we have PACs?

Republicans are running theirs. & they're LYING, controlling the narrative.

  2. Anyone in ‘Merica who honestly thinks fridges or any other product is built by people is nuts. Most items are build by automation with very few ‘people’ workers. Everything is getting more and more automated. So if you’re waiting for the new TACO manufacturing jobs - don’t hold your breath.

  4. notice in car makers’ tv ads they keep stressing ‘assembled in America’ there’s a great difference bwtn assembled & manufactured in America, gone are the days when just abt every aspect of a product made in the US was actually made in the US, companies were often praised for moving mfg jobs overseas

  5. By now, if people still think that tariffs are going to help manufacturing here in the US, they are just plain stupid! Simply stupid!

  6. Just look at what’s happening with the domestic auto makers. Tariffs are not friendly to US manufacturers.

  7. They're paying because they dont understand anything. They dont understand anything because we allowed education to fall. Dont believe me? Watch 1970s high school interviews and listen to how people spoke and what concerns they had.

We put ourselves here, red and blue working for wealth.

  8. True. Our warranty had a month to go. Went to replace it and the jackasses said we had to pay more for the replacement. As soon as the started delivery I canceled, got my money back and bought a different one on sale.

  9. 10 years ago I bought all new Whirlpool appliances. On the front of all the products is a big sticker that says made in America.4 years later when ice maker went out and had to be replaced that I found out the parts are all made in China and shipped to the US and assembled in the US.

  10. Also, there are things that America doesn’t have in abundance… eg. wood (unless you cut down your parks, which seems to currently be on the table) and potash. No fertilizer for you.

  11. Most of the old, abandoned factories have been redeveloped and the equipment has been exported or recycled. It would take about 4 yrs to find suitable new factory sites and build to suite and about 8-18 mos to have custom large mfg equip for it. The right doesn't plan to leave office.

  12. Until "Made in USA" means assembled by child labor of the children of US politicians, the phrase doesn't mean shit any more.

  13. I’ve seen many “Made in USA” labels that also state that the parts are sourced worldwide. Anything with more than a couple of parts in its makeup most likely is. These tariffs are a disaster!

  14. And for sticking it to our European allies and India and Brazil for no real reason -just to satisfy “ genius” Felon 47

  15. Dementia Donny's favorite line: "build in America, no tariffs". The one piece he's missing is the parts that are needed to build are imported from foreign countries that are tariffed. I really wish someone would school him on how this all works. Oh wait. He supposedly has a degree in Economics.

  16. Even if it was, most of those bald eagle feathers are from Canada now, thanks to climate change, pollution, deforestation, and the loss of pristine habitat in the US.

  19. Also it takes years to build a manufacturing facility, manufacturing anything will require multiple manufacturing facilities for the various vendors, and no one is going to make major capital investments when things are changing every day and they can’t plan

  20. Manufacturing is not local it is global and has been for decades and Trump and his nit wit economics advisors have no clue about how to help American Industries and Workers only how to line their pockets from the Tax/Tariffs collected off the backs of all citizens

  22. Meanwhile we’re destroying all of our nation’s science and trying to build up factories to make cheap plastic crap for dollar stores, while China is building up their sciences. Who do you think is better positioned for the next 50 years?

  23. The service sector accounted for roughly 80% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024.

We import more than we produce.

TACO Tariffs will not on-shore production.

  24. Prices will not go down even after tariffs are gone. Seriously, think about it. Ever see a five pound bag of sugar again? Inflation and shrinkflation take hold easily and really never return to the before price.

  25. The same oligarchs who have spent 3 decades offshoring US manufacturing & jobs are shoveling $$$ now to Trump fascism & repression.

Do you really think they want to bring back union-wage jobs & working conditions? See a lot of new plants being built?

“Just pay your tariffs & shut up.”

  26. American tariffs always stick it to Americans. The line that tariffs stick it to China or any other country is BS. Tariffs are taxes, and Republicans have raised taxes on Americans to pay for tax breaks to billionaires.

  29. The tariffs imposed on Canada are an attempt to financially cripple our country so Trump can make us the 51 st state.

    IT NOT JUST CHINA

    0
  30. Exactly. US manufacturers import supplies c& equipment.

American Eagle - the company Trump is promoting bc of their nazi-esque ad - imports all their clothing. most none of it is manufactured here.

  31. Too true, but there is none so blind as those who will not see. The citizens of the USA pay the TARIFFS, not any other country or people, only YOU! Lord help us, I'm 78 and I was taught that in high school. Where the hell did these people go to school?

  32. People, including our idiot president, do not seem to understand that everything with an LCD has a circuit board. All those energy-saving lights, your refrigerator/washer/dryer/stove, car, & even some lawn mowers have them. Those 'made in America' companies can not start producing their own chips

    0
  33. And don’t forget to make the point-that if 100% of those parts were made 100% in the United States, that fridge would cost $10,000 or more. How long would you need to save on your $22 an hour job manufacturing them to buy one? Can you live well without a fridge to keep your food cold?

  34. Math for MAGA, JUST CHINA

    $165 B imports from US to CN * 10% / 1.4 b folks = $11.79 / CN person / yr to CN gov.

    $440 B imports from CN into US * 30% / 340 m folks = $388.24 / US person / yr to US gov.

DJT is taxing the US citizenry at 30x the rate that China is taxing its citizenry.

  35. corporations save roughly 80% on manufacturing costs when they get overseas labor for pennies on the dollar. they then pass those savings on to… no one. absolutely no one. consumers could collectively destroy these tactics but no one wants to give up their toys.

  36. I tried explaining this to my cousin's plumber husband (inherited his small business) & he just looked at me slack-jawed and said 👁️ 👄 👁️ "......they're reciprocal tariffs."

They're really dumb and if they're not dumb, they're willfully ignorant. They're going to have to learn the hard way.

    1
  37. And one of the reason China became a popular seller is because the cost of their labor was dirt cheap = Cheap prices. Is someone considering to lower wages here?

    0
  38. That’s just because the US hasn’t constructed those factories yet. I expect that in about ten days all the factories will be up and running here. Maybe 11 days at the most. But the fools in the cult love the lies.

  40. I’ve always said people who say “made in America” need to understand that means “assembled in America” from foreign parts.

    0
  41. We are paying extra because the orange felon and MAGA think we are sticking it to China. Morons

    0
  42. Since a lot of the parts cross borders, some several times, even if you don’t factor in the cost of labor, it’s still cheaper to import the whole “foreign” fridge, than one made in America. A net loss for American industry.

  43. I can't believe Republican voters would support someone who would fuck them over just because they talked about how much they hated outside groups.

If only there was some evidence of how badly that has gone for the last 50 years, surely they would change.

  44. How many times do the components of a car built in the USA cross North American borders?

15% import tax on a European car, built in Europe where these hurdles do not exist, seems OK under the circumstances.

  46. Even if everything contained in a product was made in the US (avoiding tariffs), the increased cost of ‘like’ imported products would drive up the cost of the American-made product because the new ‘price point’ would lead the US manufacturer match the price and not leave money in the table.

    1
  47. Where do these folks get the idea that they would have a job if only there was manufacturing in the USA? Manufacturing is done by robots! What did they think "the AI revolution" is?? Now, if they want to become car mechanics and plumbers, they can still make good money and use their brains and hands

    2
  48. Bringing manufacturing back by punishing American consumers 😂 sure that’ll work.

    0
  49. sl25.bsky.social profile picture

Having worked in manufacturing for years, most of the product cost is in raw materials/parts.

Example - Parts cost ~80% of total widget cost, and has a 25% tarriffs on parts, then you would need to have FREE labor to avoid increasing mfg costs and thereby consumer prices. 🙄

    1
  50. I think what people miss, too, is how absolutely mind-numbing a lot of the manufacturing process is. Also, most of it doesn't pay particularly well. And, let's face it, a lot of these jobs could be, and will be, replaced with automation.

  51. Here in my small city of 50k in SW France, I can get a brand new double door, icemaker, US style/sized fridge, in stainless, gunmetal gray, or white, for 739€. With a 30€ delivery and set-up. Tell me again who is winning?
