Apparently, inflation is bad, but we must impose tariffs to raise the cost of cheap imports so people buy expensive American goods. We can re-shore manufacturing, but to be cost competitive, we have to fully automate factories, replacing American workers with robots.
Replies
-
In a fully automated industrial economy, there will still be jobs for fixing and programming robots, which is somehow different from the economy we have today, where engineers make a lot of money and other types of workers don't.
-
Are you suggesting that Republicans have a set of incoherent policies?
-
Yeah. At 42. Heard all of this before, and it is still wrong. Backward as well and very asinine. WE, "the people, need high paying jobs but Reagan and Bush Sr said "you don't want to work those jobs." So they sent them to another country. It what happens when greed and arrogance takes over.
-
Learn to code so we can blame you for thinking knowing how to code would help you earn a living when we invent computer programs to replace all the coders
-
Math, logic and reason terrify MAGA. Because they are clueless how they work.
-
Imagine a world Where you were given enough to live on And time to figure out what you liked, what you were good at and how to use that to make the world even better The horror The horror

If we empty out the nation of people and replace them with robots and AI- then is it a country? People make the country/ not fake AI scraper crap and robots

Don’t forget the re-introduction of child labor.

Also, per a Nobel Prize winning economist:

What, exactly, did Trump get from Europe?
-
-
Automation of manufacturing jobs was the conversation everyone was having in the 1990s. It’s extremely disingenuous of these senior legislators to pretend that whole era of discussion never happened, to promise the return of manufacturing jobs that they know will not exist.
-
That is the strategy
-
Mind blowing
-
That's what Elon is counting on.
-
It's all very emotionally satisfying when you ignore the logic of it. 🙄 #ItHasHappenedHere
-
Uh, OK.🤔
-
just as the founders intended lol
-
I'm afraid that will happen on most unskilled jobs.
-
Make it make seeeenseeee
-
-
-
-
And above all, we cannot pay these automation managers one penny more than minimum wage.
-
The crazy part is citizens of other countries also believe the tariff isn’t a tax on the person purchasing the item. I thought that was so dumb it must only be US.
-
Real clever economics. Cut wages and increase prices to build a consumer economy on local manufactures.
-
Who’s building the factory to make the $1.25 toilet brushes sold at the Dollar Store. The $1.25 throwaway “readers” aren’t terrible. I lock my prescription ones in the safe.
-
Of course the ONE DAY Donald Trump listened in class at Wharton was the day his professor broached the subject of tariffs. Too bad he didn't make it or pay attention the next class that covered the disaster tariffs caused in the 1930s!
-
Basically a dumbed down world of cheap products and everyone conforms - I think Wall-E predicted this
-
Are we great yet?
-
And we must impose tariffs on materials required to build/expand/modernize said domestic plants—increasing construction costs while also keeping wages competitive and prices at affordable levels for consumers-but also enough profit for financiers…what could go wrong? 🤷🏼♀️
-
We are going to be 20 yrs behind every other country. It will take decades to fix what Trump and GOP have done. Any bets on how fast after that their stupid base will be back on the circus train?
-
Perfectly summed up.
-
-
Hhmmm! Just about right as Lutnick, Trumps Sec of Commerce, with joy in his face, described it.
-
Buckle up buttercup. Things are about to get interesting.
-
And there's absolutely nothing that's gonna stop us.
-
Because it was NEVER about jobs for Americans.
-
The disconnect is their refusal to add universal basic income into the mix as a way of returning the tariff revenue in a way that increases buying power for most people to afford the tariff prices, and boosts incomes to counter the wage depression of automation.
-
Meanwhile, the rest of the world continues to trade with itself like normal, leaving us in the dust.
-
And now, do you understand why they are making for-profit prisons, stripping our constitutional rights away while making homelessness illegal. When the population is replaced by automation and AI, there will be an uprising, and the only right you will have is slave labor in the for-profit prisons.
-
The greater irony, the very same oligarchy who outsourced American manufacturing/jobs to increase their profit margin… because enough is never enough…is supposedly going to bring those jobs back.
-
And corporate America CPOs just might try to enact such to keep their growing greed grow still perhaps????
-
And we would have to automate the weather to be able to reap said veggies, fruits and also make fake meat.
-
Its all fun and games until the robots unionize.
-
Crackhead thinking.
-
Inflation is only bad when child raping Republicans need to whip their zombie army of magats into a frenzy. We all know the kids starving and being raped and dumped into extreme poverty illicit no feelings from them. But their nazi god have mercy on your soul if they can't buy cheap baconators
-
And we then have to remove all help from those fired American workers, and force them to go pick blueberries for no pay.
-
Cuz mango man wants to steal the money at our expense.
-
Bingo
-
Inflation under Biden/Harris: OMFG EGGGGS!!!!!!!!!
Inflation under 47/Shady: Paying inflationary prices is the most patriotic thing you can do. It’s daggum saving ‘Murikka y’all.
-
Then who will buy their new automated shit?
-
The 're-shoring' will be long slow and expensive.... trump tariffs will be ruled illegal and removed... And business will continue with more of the same
Who is going to build a new factory, hire and train workers and slip 5 years behind their competitors on the ramblings of a certifiable lunatic ?
-
Oh stop using facts and logic.
Those are soooo 2000.
-
YES indeed, just don't try to make any sense of it, but believe in our dear supreme leader who clearly has ALL the answers
-
Yes. And white collars jobs of many types are being replaced by AI. An estimated 800.000.000 jobs will disappear in the next few years due to artificial intelligence. WATCH: www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/O-Pija...

-
Seems to be something like that. Who can be sure?
-
There you go...you've got it. Makes perfect idiocy to me👽
-
You know petty theft is going to ballistic right?
Why buy an expensive import when you can steal one that already in the country.
I’m guessing car parts electronics and components are going to be on that list and then of course, food.
Specialty foods theft is big business in Europe.
-
I'm pretty sure this is how the movie version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ends, his dad gets a job repairing the robots they replaced him with at the factory.
-
To sort it, one must ask, how does this action shovel more money in the pockets of the ultra-rich?
Assuming the current gang thinks like the most unscrupulous corporate predators clarifies matters. They will gladly destroy whatever organization they control if it means more in their own pockets.
-
Or we could tax American businesses and use those funds to pay for universal health care, so that workers don't have to make more and have it taken out of their pockets by private insurance.
Just a thought.
-
You've left out:
Expel as many people as you can and push the working poor into jobs in agriculture, food prep and other low pay areas
Force women to have more ba-, er, workers and let them sink or swim as they will
-
And the circlejerk continues.
-
The Master plan.
-
Make it make sense.
-
When I say this out loud, people look at me like I have 2 heads.
-
And we must lower interest rates by at least a point, or two....to fight inflation.
-
I think it’s important to call them
#RepublicanImportTaxes
Because it’s not just Donald Trump, Congress is responsible for this but GOP cowards refused to take their responsibility seriously, afraid of Trump
So important to remind voters that they are #RepublicanImportTaxes
Make them own them
-
See? This Dalak Guy knows all about economics and robots.
-
Sounds like a great plan, doesn’t it? 🤑🥴
-
America and Americans* will be a long, long time recovering from the economic insanity of the tRump regime.
except for the 1%ers, they will be doing just fine*
**those that don't get taken out in the uprising

#Voting for #wealthypoliticians is stupid...and most especially stupid if they invest while in office.
Wealthy politicos 1. have a personal, vested interest in keeping the same system in place that made them wealthy, & 2. are financially insulated from any negative effects of their decisions.
-
Yep.

Republicans can't think that deeply, they lack cognition.

The absolutely hilarious thing is broad based global tariffs and a belief that all trade deficits are bad are 100% Trump obsessions. The only reason the GOP is going along w/ these clearly disastrous assumptions is because the MAGA cult of personality just happens to have Trump at the head.
-
Yes and big gigantic companies can afford to make less - to keep things affordable and even pay their workers properly. But instead we hear, “we have to stay competitive” while also hearing “Company A posted $19 billion in profit this year.” America is a scam.
-
Why should we pay more for necessities due to tariffs when Americans can’t make these products.
We eat as much as rich people. We drive as much as rich people. We need meds as much as rich people. Why should we pay more as a percentage of our income for necessities. Tariffs are a tax.
-
The American dream is alive and well!
-
The crazy reasoning of a lunatic and his minions.
-
Do t forget we also need to source our own raw material.
-
When I was growing up, there were steel mills up and down the Ohio River for miles. Not only are those steel mills shut down now, they've all been torn down. The train tracks that were used to run loads of coal and other materials are gone. It would take years to replace all that.
-
Yes, the goal is zero employment by business. One slight problem though, who will be able to buy the products the robots make?? The biggest growth industry will be private prisons. Quite a future we’re allowing to be created for ourselves and future generations.
-
Sounds like Modern Times
What could go wrong
-
The weird thing is they will acknowledge inflation is bad then in the same breathe go "and we are gonna impose tariffs that'll increase the cost of goods!" Not realizing that that's literally feeding into inflation
-
Sounds like a perfect circle … of screwing Americans!
-
Or prison slave labor
-
Cheap imports read: anything not profitable for Boeing
-
I think we should stop spending. buy only what we truly find worthy and stop the double binding. how much are products without adverstising. jeff owns wirecutter...all of it.
-
I just read that 50% of Americans do not realize that the tariff money is being paid by people in the United States not buy the person shipping the goods
-
Man, you are reading WAY too much into this!
Trump is a fucking moron; none of what you suggest in on his radar.
Fuck everything up, create chaos and confusion, then 'make deals' to return things to basically where they started, but CLAIM MASSIVE VICTORY!
It has ALWAYS been his MO!

suckers

That makes sense if you're the worst businessman ever with dementia worrying about being exposed as a pedophile. 🤷♂️
-
Our government
-
Your scepticism is unpatriotic, derek guy. Have you tried thoughts and prayers?
-
Yeah, it’s the logic of bullshitters.
-
look it's simple: the tariffs will make people will buy American goods instead of foreign goods, thus reshoring manufacturing. But they will also still buy foreign goods at the same or greater rates, so we can use tariffs to lower the deficit and replace the income tax.
-
#TrumpTariffTax
-
-
Who will buy the goods again? The robots? Are we exporting the higher priced goods? How does this work?
-
Hence the need to kill off anyone unable to work by defunding Medicare. And eliminate SNAP, vaccines and safe drinking water regs too, so only the fittest survive. Culling the herd to only billionaires and a handful of useful serfs.
-
There will be lots of jobs in agriculture, meat packing, and landscaping/construction. That is, if you can compete with the child labor wages.
-
It is almost like all that "American manufacturing" was just slave labor and actual slaves.
As soon as companies could outsource to China, the North Carolina furniture industry -cratered-. The bosses still lived there, with the unemployed workers' as their communities decayed.
-
Of course! You surely didn’t think that they gave a rat’s ass about the workers?!
-
-
Or the overlords can fulfill their dream of having millions of people working for them 12 hours a day with 1 bathroom break and for $3 an hour.
-
this could work with a reduction in domestic taxes.
-
🔥
-
🎯
-
So they'll automate all the blue-collar jobs and use AI to wipe out the white-collar workforce.
Then, arrest everyone for being homeless.
-
Don't ya just love the mental gymnastics these people are having to do?
-
none of it has made any sense from the start. el trumpo doesn’t seem quite that demented though, so i’m banking on some complicated grifting scheme playing out eventually

-
Makes sense if you don’t think about it
-
I must be blocking at least 10 money-begging accounts per day now. Twitter is closed and the damned have flooded Bluesky.
-
“…replacing American workers with AMERICAN robots.”
-
American workers will be robot techs and they'll like it.
-
When you put it that way, it all makes perfect sense!
-
Facts.. now to do those other jobs, of which there will be fewer, you are going to need much higher skill levels. Also in the race to robotise the economy there is one place where the US leads. Wall Street. Not main street and not manufacturing.. not even close
-
The contradictions of the capitalist capitulators.
-
AMERICAN robots.
-
You forgot the part about "we must impose tariffs to raise the cost of cheap imports, but we expect the companies selling those imports to eat the cost of the tariffs and NOT raise prices, so that people will uh... uh... continue to buy them instead of expensive American goods."
-
Just wait until fruit and vegetables are cheaper when imported, due to no field workers!
-
So basically the plan that corps have been salivating over since the birth of ai!?
-
Oh is that all?
-
So true
-
When you put it like that it makes so much sense 🤪
-
Or, if you’re a car manufacturer, invest in European manufacturing as it’s cheaper to pay the 15% tariff on completed cars than it is to manufacture here and pay 50% tariffs on steel.
-
Cost competitive = profits
Buy foreign for cheap Sell for high prices Big profits
-
That sucks!
-
These factors don't impact the mega wealthy. Only everyone else.
-
Inflation impacts employers forced to lay off workers to keep high profits. Unemployment + decline in GDP + rising Inflation that can't be brought down that also means can't lower interest rates that will cause inflation to also rise, inversely to inflation, is STATFLATION, RECESSION & DEPRESSION
-
It depends on who you are...if you're The People, yes, Inflation is the enemy
If you're trying to BANKRUPT The People, let's say you're the Criminal POTUS getting rich & fulfilling bribes w/ market manipulation for Insider Trading, Tariffs are good. Inflation is still bad for $ value, not if rich
-
-
Will the robots meet the work requirement for Medicaid?
-
You got it Mr Guy.
-
It makes sense when you realise only the 0.1% are sentient beings and all others are NPC serfs.
-
Yes. Prices are skyrocketing under Trump. The data is clear: new U.S. tariffs are directly fueling inflation, hitting your wallet hard. From groceries to goods, Americans are paying more as import taxes soar from 2.5% to 17.5% on average. The "great deal maker" promised better.
Prices Going Up: Tariffs and Inflation Rise Under "Great Deal Maker" Trump
Prices are soaring. Tariffs and inflation are impacting your budget across the nation and what it means for the economy.. Here's why.
-
Don’t forget that the rest of the world is making amazing progress in super cheap, if not free, energy.
And I’m sure that one day they’ll forgive and forget about all this nightmare we put them through, and share that new technology with us
-
It’s almost as though the plan is not to save the economy, but to destroy it.
-
And import the robots from China
-
My dad’s dream come true.
-
The Project 2025 administration has everything planned.
Increasing the age for Social Security to never Child labor from 10 years old Grandad and Grandma goes back to work until they die The disabled will be 're-qualified' to work
You know who is not going to work? The people making the new rules.
-
Except that the robots themselves will come from China and be tariffed. Those same robots will also be used in Chinese factories at 1/7 the wages for the robot managing human workers so the goods will still be considerably cheaper even after shipping and tariffs.
-
There used to be a saying, “The stupid, it’s burns.”
But maybe we’ve been going about this all wrong. Maybe it should be, “The logic, it burns.”
On account of the fact that they’ve really doubled down on the stupid.

It's always good to check this site from time to time... Will Billing and Posting Clerks be replaced by AI & Robots? willrobotstakemyjob.com/billing-and-...
Will Billing and Posting Clerks be replaced by AI & Robots?
Automation Risk Level: Imminent Risk. (or 100% probability of automation)

😳
-
And don’t forget the re-shoring will take 5-10 years…
-
can you repeat that with pictures cause my mind gets twisted up all pretzel when I try to make this shit sound like a good thing
-
-
Don't let on what will happen, MAGA will implode when they find out
-
Begin by throwing everything out, then apply your plan, which remains half-baked because you expect to discover its flaws as it unfolds, since that seems to you more efficient than trialing in small areas, improving the plan and then expanding it, while everything otherwise continues working.
-
Duh. What did you think the concentration camps were for?
-
So fewer jobs, higher prices. Sure sounds like a recipe for success!
-
What the U.S. Dollar’s Dip Means For You
The U.S. dollar has tumbled to a three-year low, potentially squeezing American wallets.
-
Broken logic is their brand. 🤷♀️
-
… transferring the rent-seeking profit accordingly
-
…so as to create more homeless…
-
Right wingers suddenly want to bring back American manufacturing, but they still don’t want to pay American workers. They’re also kidnapping people off the street and shipping them to torturous labor camps. The only way to square that particular circle is that they want to bring back slavery.
-
You forgot to add that to avoid social disturbance, after we fully automate factories we need to deport, force to leave, and force the elderly/disabled to depart from this life prematurely in order to reduce most of the population! Robots need no wages, no food, they obey, they work and they fight!
-
The Grand Unified Idiocy theory.
-
There's a book called Space Merchants, and it's a pretty good prediction of the now times. Written by Pohl and Kornbluth in 1952
-
That’s all they actually think. We are gonna lose jobs. Factories will never be ready.
-
We have tariffs because yesterday the orange idiot literally said "it's what these countries will have to pay to do business with us." And apparently NO ONE can get him off that lie.
-
All I know is that the sale prices at the grocery stores today were the regular prices this time last year.
-
And when American workers lose jobs due to companies replacing them with robots, the unemployed American workers will not be able to afford these goods. So much winning!
-
FAFO time for Redhats. MAGAts supported Elon who helped Trump win the WH. Elon first cut their benifits via DOGE and will replace their jobs with Optimus robot. 😬
-
The best part about this is NONE of it is feasible. Building a new manufacturing plant is such a huge investment even for mega corporations. There is no “fully automated” process, not even close. mostly automated requires 4-5X the number of maintenance and electricians that there aren’t enough of.
-
Go figure!🤔😏
-
mansplaining tone<I’d explain it buuut it’s kinda complicated.
-
During recessions, or now, the best thing is the stores where you can buy good cheap clothes.
-
Closing hospitals and clinics, degrading health systems, increasing access to quack cures and degrading education at all levels will help thin the surplus herd population
-
Don't worry, most of those workers will be killed off in unmonitored disasters without aid.
-
My good ser, you should stop with this bolshevik propaganda, and start believing in the orange master's vision. Also, why are you thinking? Stop that, immediately! 😉
-
The general public is seen as slave labor to be exploited at every turn until they die. If they get sick and can't produce? Homeless? Disabled? Too old? GOP solution, institutalize them, charge the government is taxpayers, and get rich.
-
That's what the MAGA folks want.
-
🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
-
I've been shouting about this for ages.
Trump goes on about having manufacturing brought back to America to create jobs.
He obviously hasn't set foot in a modern factory.
They are full of robots, not people.
He has no idea. He's just an ignorant dipstick
-
I have said this before, but I think Trump’s idea is to turn the US into one big vacation resort and kick everyone else out who hasn’t bought tickets. All goods are Disney gift shop prices. You have a few local guys to mow the grass and rake the forest. Gotta pay with Disney dollars. Etc.
-
Nailed it.
Call it the "Millions of tiny screws" Plan.
-
Yup - sounds about right.
-
Makes sense… ???
-
And the fabric that tethered the most peaceful time period in human history, free and fair global trade, has been all but destroyed.
As we barrel into warming climates, reduced industrial regulations, and reversing work towards sustainability.
Buckle up, we are on a collision course with chaos.
-
They assume most of their base won’t figure out that these puzzle pieces that they are throwing down will not, not ever, fit together and it will be a chaotic scramble to survive the economic fallout, except the few that get wealthier.
-
And those laid off American workers will be spending what on those inflated American goods?
-
see the problem isn't capitalism, the problem is the fact that capitalism requires humans to be the consumers
eliminate the need for human consumers and you have a perfect reality where everyone else is dead and a bunch of dipshits are very rich.
-
Nailed it
-
well yeah, because the US education system doesn't produce workers who can work in those factories.
-
Yep Makes a whole lot of sense Doesn't it 🙃
-
Wait till you hear how The Fed decided to fight corporate price gouging under Biden by calling it “inflation” and raising interest rates (and thus the cost of everything) while the GOP refused to stop the gouging and also blamed Biden while the billionaire-owned media cheered.
-
-
That’ll be fine bc for-profit prisons🙄🙄🙄
-
Don't you just love the logic of the Moron-in-Chief??
