  1. on this note, i have been watching Ken Burns' jazz documentary (yes i know i'm late) and it is so good! it's also been fun to watch with the kids, since it is an extended black history lesson as well

  3. After I saw this post yesterday, I immediately subscribed to my local PBS station, WUCF, for a passport Even someone with very low income as me can afford it. I also support United24 for Ukraine.

  4. There’s so much good stuff. And if I can’t find anything to watch, Antiques Roadshow is always a winner.

  5. I agree! I can’t survive without my essential, entertaining, educational and informative NPR and PBS! Vote BLUE to right the ship of State again! 💙🇺🇸💙👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻

  6. Same. I have it for the entire Ken Burns and American Experience documentary collection. Outstanding.

An absolute treasure trove of history.

  7. I’ve had it for 3 years now, and it has terrific programming for all ages - highly recommend with 2 enthusiastic thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼 Become one of the “viewers like you” you won’t regret it I promise.

  8. Same here. Some of the best high-quality content out there. They tell the truth, and teach our kids the right way, as well as being entertaining and educational!

  9. We have Science Sunday at our house with our kiddos. Most of the time that involves watching Nova. We never run out of episodes!

PBS Passport is SOOOOOO worth it.

  10. Do you find there are things that you can’t access or things that are only partly available? We can’t get all of the episodes of the last two seasons of This Old House for example. Many Nova shows are not accessible. It may be because of location. We pay Cascade PBS and live in Canada.

  11. I've donated to PBS for decades, because I've watched it since I was a kid (esp once the local station started showing Python and Who lol). When Passport showed up, I joined. Nova is wonderful; but so was Masterpiece... the history, archeology, science, music... just all of it, period.

  12. Amplify this. The International Drama section is my jam, but there is a ton of great content available on this app.

  13. Me too, and I happily pay more than $5/month. Anyone who has it and hasn't watched Endeavour is missing out!

  14. Agree. We keep up our subscription to PBS even tho we're in and out of other streaming services.

  15. I stream Rick Steves with my 90 year old mother. We watch Nova and Nature when it airs, but if that is gone I am sure we will pepper those into our PBS streaming habits. Big value.

  16. I literally just started a fundraiser to get me one of these myself since I can't exactly afford one on my own right now. I just accepted a ton of debt to go back to school.

but good tip and it's important. glad you're talking about this.

  17. Good series on there about the exile of the Norwegian royal family in ww2 and their relationships with fdr. Very good show if you like historical-adjacent stories

  18. beginning to feel like you could probably get away with dumping every streaming platform except this and kanopy and end up with a better life

  19. Mine grew into becoming a sustaining member and I didn’t think twice about it. It’s the highest monthly I have for news and entertainment and damn well worth it. The catalog is endless.

  20. As a child, I was afraid of bats after seeing an exaggerated picture of a vampire bat in a natural history book. Count von Count helped me get over my fear of bats. Thank you, @pbs.org. 🦇💖

  21. Also be sure to cancel your Paramount+ subscription and Amazon Prime. If you had any of those and you cancel you'll be able to afford PBS passport and have money leftover.

  22. We need all public broadcasting. If we don't keep it on air the radical r w will take over media completely. They already have most of it. Donate for all and esp kids. Education. Information.
    PBS AND NPR

  23. Same. I’ve been giving them $7 a month for forever. I don’t remember how I landed on that number, but it’s definitely a bargain. BTW, for those in DC, the new WETA streaming app is very well done. Great interface and it looks great on my Apple TV box. It unlocks extra content for Passport donors.

  24. Same! I’ve had PBS passport for years. Grantchester is one of my favorite shows and I love being able to watch it.

  25. yes! i grew up in a media mkt that had 3 pbs stations (now has 4). parents always gave so as an adult, hubs & i give. we've lived in several states & just kept up the donations when we moved. we're fortunate to now live with 3 pbs stations & we still give (npr too). need to reup my kuow tho.

  26. Me too, and I’m willing to pay more. I think everyone who can is also. Please help us stay informed on this topic. I suspect many of the smaller stations will be gone, but I hope NPR and PBS as well as the top-tier shows can survive without CPB. Donors will have to fill the gap.

  27. You all are watching documentaries while I'm watching cop shows from Spain and France.

  28. Unforgotten, Grandchester, Professor T, Annika, All Creatures Great & Small & Call the Midwife off the top of my head

  29. I signed up for that but it doesn’t have everything. And my closed captioning doesn’t work with it.

    Still worth it, though.

  30. I've supported both PBS and NPR with regular donations, in every area of the country I've lived in since the mid-70s. Passport is great, except it limits what programs your local PBS station supports. In Arkansas I can't get the same programs I could get in San Jose or Seattle.

  31. Absolutely a great streaming deal, as well as just supporting your local station. If the British cozies and Masterpiece aren’t your thing, may I recommend Rocco Schiavone, a fun Italian crime series with lots of cigarette smoking, casual nudity and a good dog

  32. Yep, lots of good stuff. My station gives you full access for $5/mo, I give them $15. Now that the orangutan is trying to kill them off, everyone should give at least $5. PBS and NPR are too valuable to allow them to die.

  33. Our local public broadcasting station WQED just let go 19 employees. This is the home of Mr. Rogers neighborhood. It is a very sad day for public broadcasting.

  34. When I heard the Rs were defunding CPB, I doubled my contribution. If you can, you should.

    My personal favorite:

  35. I watch them on my tv. I only have broadcast which means I have an additional 3 channels from Long Island and one from Connecticut. They all have better programming ( and scheduling) than NYC's 13!

  36. We love PBS Passport Kansas City. We recently doubled what we pay monthly. You can get it for as little as $5 a month, which is a steal.

  37. Same here. I love my local PBS station & programming and just upped my monthly donation. I also committed to another region’s station. At a time when I’m feeling pretty powerless, this is a way to fight for what I value. It’s not the only way or the only cause, but PBS is indeed a valued community.

  38. When I was working from home I’d play Antiques Roadshow on autoplay all day long. Perfect for background noise that was just as much of a distraction as you needed in literally any situation.

  39. Thanks for the reminder. I have been meaning to join PBS again, yep. This will be added to our household goods again! 💕 PBS 💕

  40. Thank you for posting this. I’m also a subscriber to PBS Passport and it’s great! Totally agree with you!

  41. As a huge fan of jazz, I thought this was the weakest of the Burns documentaries. He basically turned over the editorial reigns to Marsalis who hates anything experimental or boundary pushing. I think he avoids ⅔ of jazz history

  42. It's my favorite news outlet, science education, movie and series spot! And I can sit down and watch a whole season of something awesome over a long weekend!

  43. "Nature" has been one of the best series EVER - over 40 years! Even our dogs loved it! Saturday afternoon cooking shows! I have learned SO MUCH about cooking from them. We have subscribed to our local PBS for decades and have been Passport members for a few years now.
